Nothing to share...and I'm OK with that

Remember how I said I love it when things seem to fall into place? That didn't happen this week.

This week is all about the Oscars over at Sew Weekly and I had a great dress planned. But, alas, my little fingers just couldn't sew fast enough... (not to mention, there were 8 hours consumed by dyeing!) So far, I've sewn a muslin, altered the pattern, dyed 5 yards of silk charmeuse in two batches
, cut the main dress, thread traced it all, basted the darts, sewed the darts, removed the tracing and the basting, and I've begun on the stays. By the time all this was done, it was 10pm on Wednesday night and to avoid an all-nighter, I started examining what I had left to do, looking for shortcuts.

Not much of a dress yet...
Then, I reminded myself (with a little help from Brandon) that this dress had quite a lot of potential and I wanted it to incorporate as many "couture" techniques as it could. Shortcuts were not an option. I joined Sew Weekly to encourage myself to keep sewing, not to rush through projects just to get them done in time for weekly photos (which is the way I was thinking at that hour). So, I've decided to take my time and make the dress properly. I'll work on it a little at a time in between other projects and I'll be sure to share when it's finished.

In the meantime, I want to catch up on others' posts, work on a few projects around the house, and most importantly, relax. I plan to start on the next item on my list sometime mid-week. I need a small break but, I [generally] have too much fun sewing for Sew Weekly and way too many ideas bouncing in my head to sit out too many challenges. I won't have anything to share for the Oscars or the Refashioning challenge but, I do hope to be back in the game after that. If not, things will get shifted around and life will go on. :-)

I think a relaxing cup of tea and a good movie are in order! Have a great weekend! x

  1. Yes, remember to keep this as something you enjoy doing and not something that you have to do. Sewing should be a joy. This is looking very promising and I can't wait to see the finsihed result.

  2. You're always so encouraging! :-) Exactly. Luckily, I only forgot that for a few moments. I'm still very excited to finish this dress and then next few items on my queue.

  3. I second what Annabelle says-- sewing isn't a job or a chore (I can forget that sometimes, though)! I know you'll be happy that you took the time to make this slowly. The dye job looks great! It's a beautiful color!

    1. Thanks, Ginger! The color is half the reason I'm so excited about the dress :-)
