OOTD: Falling for Cords x 2

What a busy, busy last two months this has been!  (And, we still don't move until late next week!)  There certainly hasn't been much sewing going on over here, as every time I've cut fabric or pulled out my machine, I've had to throw it all right back in the closet for another showing of our house.

But, my me-made items are seeing more and more wear :-)  In fact, for our house-hunting trip to Georgia, I wore a me-made item every day!  My corduroy skirts in particular are now in regular rotation.  I reach for them so often, I've added four more to my queue... which is, of course, on hold but, eventually...

Lately, I'm hooked on burgundy and gold.  So, of course, I had to try them together!

Button-front:  Banana Republic (similar), Skirt:  Simplicity 2451, Handbag:  Dooney & Burke (vintage, similar)
If I look a little stressed, that's because we were exploring the historic district (complete with old covered bridge, shown above) of our soon-to-be new town while waiting to hear if the offer we made on a house was accepted.  Spoiler alert:  it was!!!  Though, we didn't find out until 4 hours later!

I also have a love/hate thing going on with fair isle this fall.  It reminds me of childhood winter vacations in snowy Connecticut and it's gaining popularity lately so, I thought now would be a good time to try it again.  No worries though, no Seamless Pledge was broken in the making of my outfit.  I picked up this "vintage" (Really? Why are we calling '90's vintage?) Ralph Lauren wool sweater at a thrift shop for $3.50!

I opted to 'own' the '90s vibe and pair it with corduroy, though my thoughts are still mixed...  Please, feel free to share yours!

Blouse:  Banana Republic, Sweater:  Polo Ralph Lauren (thrifted), Skirt:  Simplicity 2154, Loafers:  LifeStride
Oh, notice anything new?  What?  I never told you I wear glasses!?  Haha.  I'll be sharing more about my new lenses tomorrow!

Time to get back to living vicariously through all of your lovely projects!  You know, between showings...and emails...and calls to the bank and this utility company, that Realtor... ugh.  Things will get back to normal soon. I hope!

Happy sewing! x

  1. Your thrifted sweater is cute! I think minimal of fair isle is good... but me, I don't know, I like the design but don't think I would wear it... maybe too "holiday-ish" as you said. I like the cord skirts... must plan to sew some for winter (next year).

    1. Thanks!! I think fair isle looks great on others but, I'm a little unsure about on myself as well. I do agree it's best to keep it small. No full-on snowflakes and reindeer for me :)

  2. I think I'm biased...ever since Neville Longbottom kicked ass in a Fair Isle sweater, I've thought they were awesome. I do really like the look of yours with the burgundy skirt!

    1. Thanks, Cindy! Haha, I know exactly which sweater you mean. I have to admit, I do think Harry Potter maaay have had a small influence on my winter wardrobe.

  3. Your skirts are really pretty, and you match them really well!

  4. Yay, it's so exciting that your offer was accepted! Congratulations. I've been thinking about you a lot lately ad hoping the house hunting/selling process has been going well.

Your outfits are very fall like and perfect for the season. I especially like the burgundy color on you (both with the blouse and skirt . . . though probably not together). Can't wait to see your new skirts. I just bought an out of print Butterick skirt pattern on eBay that I had been hunting for and can't wait to make that part of my wardorbe.

    1. Thanks, Annabelle!! I was thinking about you a lot through the process too. I'm was so excited to see your hunt turned out well.

I'm glad you were able to track down the pattern you wanted. I can't wait to see it!

  5. I dread to think what "buyers" would think if they popped in unannounced into my sewing "heaven".

Did anybody ask to look inside your storage only to find all kinds of WIPs tumbling down on them in an avalanche?

Nice to see you back and the glasses look great!

  6. I love both of the skirts! They're very fall! I'm not super into fair isle, but this looks cute on you.

Good luck with the rest of your move and all that stuff! It's such a pain in the butt... hope it all goes smoothly!

  7. Those skirts are great! I might have to get that pattern. Good luck with the move :)
